I used to love Nancy Drew, Sherlock Holmes and Agatha Christie too (and I used to borrow my brothers' Hardy Boys). My favorite detective is Poirot. I don't read many mysteries now, but I'm going to go back and re-read some favorites.

unmitigated me (m.a.w.)

Robert B. Parker (RIP), Janet Evanovich, and Sue Grafton are my favorites. I have actually re-read their mysteries, which says something! When the kids were little, I read a dozen others, but these three stuck with me.

I don't read alot of mystery novels. I have read most of the Agatha Christie books. I would like to get involved in reading just for fun!
I am going to take names of the mystery writers and head for the library!

I have loved mysteries starting with my Nancy Drew days, then I moved on to Agatha Christie & think I've owned most of them at one time or another.

I don't know who my favorite author is now, but I tend to like the fluffy ones that involve food, cats, knitting or all of the above. I use them as sleeping pills...

I do love a good mystery--I'm hooked on Louise Penny's books lately.

Dorothy Sayers.
Charlotte McLeod/Alisa Craig
Edgar Allen Poe (the Dupin stories)
Modern?
I enjoy Donna Andrews
Lilian Jackson Braun
Diane Mott Davidson
Jill Paton Walsh

I like to read series, as then I 'know' what to expect out of a novel.

I loved mysteries as a kid. I had the entire Trixie Belden series. I read several Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys books. I think I got through all of Agatha Christie's books.

I read a couple of mysteries recently that I thought were ok. But I haven't found anything recently that grabbed me like it did when I was a kid.

But I'm always open to trying out a series and new authors. You never know what you will find.

Loved Nancy Drew and Agatha Christy when I was a kids, too. Kind of moved away from mysteries as an adult reader but my book club chooses at least one a year and I admit I have enjoyed most of them, as long as they are smart, not too obvious or overwritten.

Heather

I haven't read a mystery since I devoured the elementary school library's collection. I'm not sure I have a favorite author.

I wouldn't say it's really mystery that I read, more suspense. I love Dean Koontz and some of Stephen King. Peter Straub is also one I like. Honestly though, I'll read anyone and anything as long as it falls in the "fiction has mostly words at least 100 pages long" category. I find myself reading all kinds of odd things just to pass time. Posters, flyers, pamphlets, street signs. All of it. I have to read it. I totally understand that "need to read" thing.

"You know how you feel about breathing? That’s exactly how I feel about recreational reading." Oh, me too! Me three, even.

I was totally into Nancy Drew, and my collection reached well over 100 before I moved on. I love Dick Frances, Dorothy Sayers, Robert Parker, Dorothy Gilman ... the list goes on.

I have three mystery writers I enjoy - Sayers (Lord Peter Wimsey, natch), Anne Perry (Pitt and Monk series, not her more recent stuff) and Amelia Peabody series by Elizabeth Peters.

I like suspense / mystery as well. My favorite author is John Grisham - I like the legal suspense novels, as well as all of his others. Playing for Pizza is one of my favorites by him. Probably because the setting is in Italy and I want to go there someday.

I love to try to figure out mysteries, whether TV shows or books.

Carol Wong

I love to read mysteries, including suspense, thrillers and especially cozies. I have lots of favorites, James Patterson, Sandra Brown, Reece Hirsch, Pamela Samuels Young and John Hart, Sue Grafton, Janet Evanovitch are a few of them. I read all of Sherlock Homes and Agatha Christie when I was young.
