Magpie Musing got a Wii Fit for a giveaway, which is great and I hope I win it, but I'd love to give away a Wii Fit too. If anyone at NIntendo is reading this . .
If you clicked over you've probably quit reading because you're busy composing your own Wii Fit entry, so I'm probably writing this just for myself (and possibly a Wii Fit), but here goes. . .
So, a good story, a funny story or an embarrassing story? Hmmm. How about a sorta sad story?
About 6 years ago, my mother died of cancer. I immediately, in 2 months, gained 30 lbs. This was very bad because I'd need to lose 30 lbs. before I gained the 30 lbs. and hello? It sucked. At about this same time my sister had gastric bypass surgery and hello? That is some scary sh*t.
I had a couple of choices. Be miserable or make changes. I made changes. Healthy eating (not dieting), regular exercise (Pilates and walking and circuit training at the gym). In a year I lost 60 lbs. And life was good. And it stayed good for about 4 years.
Then, this year, in January I lost my sister, in April I lost a dear friend, and in October my husband lost his job. And you remember that I'm a full-time student and I sent my oldest son to college out-of-state? You did pick up on emotional eater earlier in the post, right? So hello 30 lbs. again.
However, all is not lost. For someone who needs to lose 30 lbs. I'm actually not in terrible shape--I've been walking throughout most of the year. Methinks though that this situation calls for a little something stronger than walking. The gym that helped me so much last time? Closed. What I do have though is a TV--so if I could find some way for the TV to help me get my fit on in a fun and totally non-boring way in the comfort of my own home as I rededicate myself to brown rice and roasted vegetables and grilled chicken--that would be perfect, right?
Something like a Wii Fit, perhaps? Pick me. Pick me.
I recommend this video clip:

...because it makes me smile!
I understand all about the emotional eating, and your reasons behind it are PRIMO.
Playing with family is fun, how about some Wii games like Wii Play or Wii Sports?

Oh, you are an emotional eater too! I remember you writing about this a while ago...I was wondering how you were doing as of late. I find that I am the kind of person that eats for each phase of my life....happy times, sad times, stressful times....not a good thing.
I hope you win the wii and I hope you enjoy it!
We have a channel called FIT TV. It is 24 hours a day work out stuff. I have tivo'ed a few different shows and try to do them a few times a week. It keeps it from getting boring, you know, doing the same thing each day.
good luck Jenn....

Having lost my parents and sister myself, I understand the emotional eating. (Oh, and my husband just spent 5 mos out of work w/a bad back.)
I had gastric bypass surgery 6 years ago. I lost 125 lbs, did remarkably well, and yet I still wouldn't recommend it. I know it's life-saving for many, but for me personally, I have never felt good since. And? I was so vitamin deficient for about two years (ended up doing 8 weeks' worth of IV infusions to get my iron levels back up) that I ate everything in sight. It was like being pregnant. Oh, and I gained 40 lbs that I still haven't gotten off. And? I still feel like hell.
*sigh*
Just saying I feel your pain. What an uplifting comment I just left! Way to make your day, right?

I don't have any excuse for my 30 pounds, just laziness and bad habits.

I've got the Nutrisystems website open on another tab. I'm fat through medication but still can't stand it. We're going to Disney in less than two months and I will fit into my summer clothes - and maybe they'll even be a little loose!

The Wii Fit is good fun. Time goes by so quickly you don't even notice that you're working out. Good luck!

I should just give you my Wii Fit. It's been sitting in the box for a month, or ore. What does it say about a person who is too lazy to open her Wii Fit box? Not good . . . And now that I have only nine working toes . . . there's little hope for me.
Good luck! I hope you win your Wii Fit, and that when you do, you open the box, which I'm sure you will, because you're you, not me.
;-)

I hear ya sister! I think your story is perfect. If I were choosing you'd win!

I feel your fat. I mean, my fat. But yes, I can relate. I have never experienced the satisfaction of losing anywhere near 30lbs, having steadily gained a few pounds to ten pounds per decade. So I can't imagine how frustrating to gain back such an amazing loss. But maybe you know you've done it before, you've had that success once, and you know you can do it again?
And yes, if you discover the nirvana of combining TV watching.. no... better ... blogging and weight loss, please fill me in.
Blogging should come with a warning about weight gain.

I hope you win. We love ours. The kids can play it forever. I, on the other hand, can out-hula hoop any of them. Yep, it is quite a skill honed over time...

I hear ya. I do the same thing. And due to losses in the past few years, I've gained a lot of weight!!!
I hope you win!
