If, on a sunny December day, your son should say to you,
"You own boots that are made for walking," listen to him.
Go ahead, take the road less-traveled (the one that doesn't lead to the mall!).
Ford a stream
Follow a trail
Contemplate some rock climbing
Think better of it (and your precious Canon Rebel), and just contemplate some rocks instead.
Go ahead, chase through the marshy brush just to get the shot (then give up and let your son keep going--it's okay to draw the line at actually wading up to your knees in brackish water).
On the way out, look back and capture the end to a perfect day. Be sure to stop for Mexican food on the way home--a 7.5 mile hike earns you the Carnitas and him the California burrito.
Beautiful pictures and a great way to spend a day with your son.

What a great day with your son! Personally, I think that anytime is a good time for Mexican food.

What a great day. It is nice to have the kids be big enough that they have to help us ford streams, wait for us to catch up, and come back for us when we decide to sit down on a log for a while.

What an awesome walk! Yesterday, my daughter, husband and I walked on a beach in Jupiter FL and collected another handful of nice shells.

You've inspired me. Think I'll bundle the boys up and go for a walk in the woods. Perhaps it will make all the difference.

Hey - I need one of those to tell me to get out and about too. Of course if he tried to do it in the wee hours (the only daylight time I have right now) I would have to kick him in the head with those hiking boots.

I think that this is the kind of day that my hub has planned for us in the next few days....though without the awesome Mexican food at the end. damn.
The photos are great...the day sounds wonderful...definitely one to keep in "memory bank"!
Here's wishing a day like that for ALL of us!!

oh what a cute owl!!!

That sounds like a dream. I would love to do that, but I'm not really into hiking when it requires many layers of wool, waterproof boots and long underwear.
Hopefully in about three months that can be a reality!

So awesome!!!!! I haven't walked more than a mile in a long, long time.
Of course you need some great Mexican food after all that.
