Deb at San Diego Momma does this weekly post prompt. I don't usually play, but I do read some amazing writing that comes out of them. Yes, Cheri and Blognut, I'm talking about you! This one spoke to me, so hear goes.
Please write a post about love: When you knew you were in love. How you stay in love. What those about to get married should know about love. What qualities you hope to find in someone when you fall in love, and/or so on. You can even go the route of “Best love/marriage advice you ever got or gave.” Or perhaps you want to write about your wedding day or engagement. If you’re not married or in a relationship, how will you know when you’ve found “the one?”
The ink was barely dry on her driver's license. It was spring in San Diego--if she would have been driving a convertible the top would have been down. Since she was driving her mother's burgundy Buick it was just the windows that were down. Still, the music was loud, her best friend Lorie was in the passenger's seat and they were headed to the mall to hang out at the arcade. If you've ever been a teenager in the U.S.A. you know that's enough to just about guarantee a good time.
She parked the car in the parking lot with the satisfaction that only a new driver can have and casually tossed the keys into her new Le Sportsac. It was a Saturday night, but they were just going to the arcade so she was dressed cas; her purple painter paints along with the coordinating baseball shirt with purple sleeves. Lorie wore her Calvin Klein jeans; they were both pretty happy with the way they looked.
It was just inside the entrance to the food court that they ran into a group of boys, one of whom Lorie knew from school. Introductions were made all around. The prospects for the evening immediately got better. One of the boys really caught her eye. Cute, of course, with curly red hair and hazel eyes. Funny too. They stood around for a bit, talking and laughing. The guys couldn't stay, they had somewhere else to be. Before they left though the girls had agreed to go to the track meet on Tuesday--the redhead was a distance runner and there was also a high jumper and a hurdler in the group.
The groups parted, the girls toward the arcade, the boys toward the exit. She turned around for one last look at the cute redhead. That's when it hit her like the proverbial bolt of lightning. She'd just met the boy who would become the man she would marry.
Awww... that's so sweet.

The story, I mean, and the linkage is sweet, too.
You're just sweet. Yeah, that's it.

Wow, so people really do that? Have that bolt of lightning realization? You gotta love a cute red head, right?

You are blessed to have fallen in love so young. :)
I have a matted and framed photo hanging in our bedroom. It is all winter grays and browns, a lake with trees reflected in its calm surface. I met my husband 5 minutes later.

Red hair get me every time.
I love that you can remember so many details. The purple painter pants!

Really? I never heard your "when we first met" story.
I love hearing the origins of relationships.

The lightning may have been the arcade lighting against all that 80s apparel...
SO SWEET

Really cool that you KNEW after that first meeting! What did it, do you think, the curls or the red or the eyes?

I knew right away, too, but not THAT fast (several hours) and NOT THAT YOUNG! You must be Creskin. (sp.?)
