Social Butterfly: Can I go to this place in Ramona where you can jump off rocks into the water?
Me: What is the name of it?
Me: What parents are going?
SB: No parents, but Luke's friend Dakota is a senior and he's a really good driver.

I think I know what your answer was...

This is truly one of the most appropriately titled blog posts I've seen in a while!
So what was her response to your answer? Please don't say it was incredulity.

Oh, I know that I know what your answer was. Something like, "Oh, hell to the no, young lady!" In Arizona, we had the Salt River, where thousands of people go tubing in the summer. Every year, drunk people jump off rocks and cliffs, and at least one person dies, every single year. Sometimes more than one. Let me guess, she thought you were being unreasonable, right?

Oh....hell no, little lady!!
Talked to my mom earlier and found out that, where we all used to go and "jump off the rocks into the water", last weekend, three guys were jumping one after another and the second guy didn't get out of the way fast enough and the last one landed on him. The kid ended up in the hospital, in surgery where they ended up having to take about 4 inches of his stomach out. Not a fun way for a high school kid to spend the summer!!
Nope. Sorry. Not worth it.
There IS a nice pool though, just down the street.

Co'mon! It'll be fuuuuun! Every one is going to BE there!
Posted by: tysdaddy | June 27, 2009 at 08:15 AM
The Devil's Punchbowl? Heh.
Posted by: Professor J | June 27, 2009 at 08:15 AM
My response would be...
Yes, you can go! On the way home from my funeral! Because it's not going to happen in MY lifetime!
Posted by: Little Miss Sunshine State | June 27, 2009 at 09:08 AM
Yeah, we all know the answer to this one.
We have a high school friend who has been a paraplegic since 1993 from jumping into a canal with some friends....
Not a good thing.

I knew the answer at "Devil's Punchbowl"!!
Posted by: jenrantsraves | June 27, 2009 at 09:30 AM
No, huh? Has she forgiven you yet?
Posted by: Blognut | June 27, 2009 at 10:18 AM
Mean Mommy! :-)
Posted by: Chrisitna | June 27, 2009 at 10:28 AM
You know there is one very positive point to this post. She did not lie, she told you there would be no parents. She probably knew the answer before she asked too. Good kids you are raising there!
Posted by: Karen | June 27, 2009 at 10:37 AM
Me too! Easy one!
Posted by: Kelly | June 27, 2009 at 11:48 AM
Ahhh,Mom....Come on!
Posted by: Kimberly | June 27, 2009 at 12:14 PM
God, you're so strict!
I'm sure all the other moms said yes.
Posted by: Maureen at IslandRoar | June 27, 2009 at 12:28 PM
But he's a senior! How much more mature can you get?
Posted by: suburbancorrespondent | June 27, 2009 at 01:11 PM
Good call.
Posted by: KathyR | June 27, 2009 at 02:06 PM
The timing of your post is spooky. Our evening news ran a story about local danger zone, Devil's Water Hole at Inks Lake. Same type of story. Losing footing and falling to their deaths. Google certain has it's merit (and drawbacks, according to teens).

I'd file that under Things She's Going to Appreciate Once She Has Kids. :)

I want to hear her response! Was there eye rolling? If it were me at her age, there would have been eye rolling. I pray to whatever God I choose on any given day that I don't have eye rolling in my future...

Ack! The phobic and fearful Matron is practically on a plane to strap SB to the ground.
Posted by: Minnesota Matron | June 27, 2009 at 06:56 PM
Darn, Jenn. My xanax prescription is out so I guess I can't get on that flight. Speaking of phobic. You keep her captive for me!
Posted by: Minnesota Matron | June 27, 2009 at 06:57 PM
I know the answer too! ;-)
Posted by: she | June 27, 2009 at 07:25 PM
"SB: No parents, but Luke's friend Dakota is a senior and he's a really good driver."
I need a really good comeback for that one--because ONE DAY, I will be on the other end of that statement.
Posted by: LaskiGal | June 27, 2009 at 11:01 PM
Yes? Yes?
No. That isn't the answer? :-)
How about: "When pigs fly, sweetie!"
Posted by: Lisa (Jonny's Mommy) | June 27, 2009 at 11:28 PM
Perhaps SB was looking to you for the only answer you could possibly give, just so she could save face with the rest of the group. After all, they must already know SB is adventurous (I'm thinking of her birthday "flight"). Having a "No Way" from you gives your daughter an easy out.

Um.
Nice try?

I just hate being confronted with these situations!
Posted by: Jason | June 28, 2009 at 03:39 PM
ha ha - yes, that one seems like a no brainer ;)
Posted by: LifeAsIKnowIt | June 28, 2009 at 04:33 PM
so the answer was no?
i've been here. jumped it a couple times. there are a few trails down to the pools, and a few trails up the rocks to dive.
hard going.
hurts once you dive, too. even if you jump feet first (which i did). my ears popped. immediate sharp and debilitating headache.) i hit bottom with my feet. and it was deep.
turned out well. a good time was had by all. but dangers are all around, even in our gorgeous SD backyard.

"A really good driver?" But were they planning to bring a "really good lifeguard?" Or "a really good EMT?"
Posted by: Smalltown Mom | June 28, 2009 at 09:55 PM
hahaha!!! Thanks, that made me laugh :-)
Posted by: Janet | June 28, 2009 at 10:41 PM
But what is the question again?
Gotta love teenage logic!
Posted by: Green Girl in Wisconsin | June 29, 2009 at 10:15 AM
How considerate of her, she'll probably even wear her seat belt! ;)
Posted by: Fannie | June 29, 2009 at 01:33 PM
Oh my son would be off there like a shot. I can see I am going to have all to deal with before long. I am going to turn into the big bad woman who says "no" and spoils all his fun.
Scary stuff.
Posted by: Reluctant Blogger | June 29, 2009 at 02:27 PM
I love your title.
Posted by: magpie | June 30, 2009 at 11:14 PM
I would have known the answer to this one too!
