I think I might have mentioned that SB’s Christmas present last year was a room makeover. Since she’s been in this bedroom—the pre-remodel master—she’d had a Hawaiian/Tropical theme. It was very cute, but she was ready for a change and a little more sophistication. And how much do she and I both love that IKEA makes that possible for a reasonable price?
The Queen size bed was the biggest expense, but it is true that on any given weekend night, and nightly during summer, you can find three or four girls sprawled on the bed, snoozing away—and sometimes a few more on the floor. That’s how she talked us into the big bed anyway.
She went with gray walls, cranberry curtains and a rather old-fashioned looking floral duvet that doesn’t look too old-fashioned because of the modern bed frame.
Because she inherited her Mama’s love of photos, one wall is used to stick photos on with that tacky stuff that doesn’t take off paint. It’s a constantly morphing art piece. She and I both love the Gustav Klimt piece over the bed—and since it’s just canvas over a light frame it’s not going to kill her if it falls off the wall during an earthquake!
The flower pics are left over from the last room and we’re keeping our eyes peeled for something to replace them.
Her room pretty much always looks like this because she’s also got a little bit of her mama’s neat freak in her. Like me, she’s okay with one place in the room for piles—but only one.
We had a lot of fun shopping together and she and her dad and brother painted it together one day over winter break. She really does appreciate having the big room, and we like seeing her and a passel of friends have a great space to laugh, talk, sleep and put on makeup.
Boy, this wasn’t very wordless, was it?!
That's a dream room. I love the Klimt.
I'm cleaning out my son's room while he is gone (with his permission) but I'm saving all the gory details for a blog post....

What a great looking space for a teen. She has sophisticated style, evidenced by the gray and cranberry combo. Oh, and by the neatness of the place, too. So very, very different from the bedrooms I saw when my daughters lived at home ... and the rooms I see when I visit their homes now!

I love the color combo, the Klimt, and the ONE pile.
Now come on over to my place and do your magic.

We also had the "Summer travelling sleepover". Sorority Girl's room had a set of bunk beds where the bottom bunk was a double size futon and there was also a sleep sofa in the room.
The girls would make mini posters of the things that made them laugh during the sleepovers and they were all on the walls until she went off to college.
SB's room is really beautiful.

I have Merlot walls with silver-grey curtains and linens. An excellent combination!
I would have KILLED for that room as a teen. Please tell me she doesn't have her own bathroom.
PS - Never thought about 'earthquake weight' for hung objects.

I love her room too..she scored with getting the old master.
I sure wish I had neat freaks living with me...I keep threatening to post photos of their ghetto rooms!!

I am baffled by one window with a curtain, one without. Otherwise, lovely.

Amazingly that color combo is the same one my daughter chose for her room at the same age! I would have chosen the Klimt, She had a rather large poster of James Dean.

A very cute room - I also love that Klimt piece. I have a couple small prints by him in my office but I'd never seen that one before - it's unique!
I love the idea of being the house where the kids come over and hang out.
