Danger Boy Man has been noticeably absent from this blog this summer. One of the reasons is that I like to use photos in my posts and DB is vehemently fairly opposed to having his picture taken.
In DB's defense, he did spend much of his childhood being watched through a telephoto lens. It was hardly my fault he was so darn photogenic, though!
Rude gestures to the photographer aside, DB has been quite the wonderful son this summer. Knowing that DB is a spirited, fun-loving sort who'd spent his freshman year like many college freshman do--partying studying--I was moved to request of him, via phone, before he returned in May, that this summer be a summer of "no shenanigans of any sort." Remember, when he came home Social Butterfly's anorexia was still requiring a tremendous outlay of energy on my part, and I was concerned that I not encouner a proverbial straw.
This summer DB has kept himself busy coaching water polo, hanging out with The Girl Next Door, not staying out late enough to cause me worry and helping around the house. In fact, he has helped out so much that Mr. Fix-it actually asked me what I had done to him.
"Well, I did lose my sh*t over the house being a mess once when he first came home."
"Yes, but you've done that a million times. What made this time different?"
"No, idea."
Whatever it was, I'm the only mother of a 19-year old boy that I know that can say my son unloads the dishwasher, takes out the trash and mows the lawn without my having to ask. When I came back early from Flagstaff without warning, I returned to a clean house.
I know, right?
Not that he'll read it--I'm pretty sure he likes my blog as much as he likes my mad photography skillz--but I thought DB deserved a shout-out for giving me what I really needed this summer. Help.
Glad you are getting help this summer and that DB has made that transition to DM!
My college girl has been much more help than she was last year - but not without asking. What a difference not having to ask makes!

Sounds like he's good at SHOWING you how much he loves you --and his sister. The Girl Next Door is a lucky lady :-)

What a great kid--but really no surprise!

Kids can really step up when they know it's important. BTW, I also get that look when I try to photograph my younger, but not the finger!

My son (16) is that way, too. I never say anything about it to anyone else, though, because whenever I do, it's met with, "Wow. What does he want?"
Nothing. Some kids are just genuinely amazing.
So glad you can fully relate!

(Actually, though, I do brag on Facebook about it from time to time.) ;-)

Good boy.

He may not read your blog, but I'm sure he wouldn't mind reading it if you printed it out and left it somewhere for him to find.
I think he is just mature enough to realize that you have enough on your plate right now. That says a lot about him... and you and your husband!

You've got me beat. My 19yo may take out the trash and unload the dishwasher without being asked, but I'm pretty sure he would not mow the lawn without being told to do it.
I figured that either he had requested that you not blog about him *or* something was going on that was too tough to talk about. Glad it's the former and not the latter!
(And yes, much cuteness!)

What a great young man...shenanigans or not. You and Mr. Fix it raised wonderful, respectful and down-right good people; all deserving of a shout out now and then. or everyday? :)
I'm pretty sure he was showing you a hang nail on his middle finger. No? LOL
