Things this picture make me think about:
- I am sure that I have some readers that are not aware that Grownup Girl is actually biologically my niece. She was three-years old when she was the flower girl at my wedding. We got a kick out of each other.
- I got her dress at Nordstrom for $45 and it was so sweet--pink satin and white lace. My sister and I got into a tiff because she changed her into a tacky shorts outfit for the reception--I'm pretty sure just to annoy me :)
- I loved my veil! A neighbor for whom I babysat made it for me. We looked at many gorgeous veils this weekend, but I never thought, "Oh, I would have rather had one of those."
Here's a better picture of my wedding dress . . .
After a day of wedding dress shopping, SB asked to try mine on. I gave a big song and dance about how it would probably be swimming on her and then it turns out to fit like a glove. And I thought I was too heavy when I wore that dress. Even at five-ish inches shorter than her, I wasn't that big if she and I could wear the same size. It's such a waste that white American women rarely appreciate their bodies even when their bodies are at their best.
Can you tell I was a big fan of An Old-Fashioned Girl? I would have been in heaven if I could ever do a Gibson Girl hairdo. Sigh.
Be sure to check out the rest of the Time Warp Tuesday participants: Brightside-Susan, Karen, Tonya Lynn, Smalltown Me, Jen, and Gary. I think I will give myself a break and take next week off--by next Monday night I better be getting busy on making that old Thanksgiving magic happen!
I wasn't aware Grown Up Girl is your niece! Funny how we piece things together after the fact.
Yes, that your dress fits your girl so perfectly is a huge reality check. My mom does the same with old photos of herself: she talks through the fact that she felt so "fat" or overweight back then, when she was 30 pounds lighter than now, etc. We women need to ease up on ourselves.

I've read your blog long enough that I know some of your backstory. I love how GG looks up at you so smart and happy. And now all of you are smart and happy preparing for her wedding! SB is so beautiful. "Somewhere in Time."

Two sweet pics in one post! ♥
I love how the two of you are looking at one another in the first photo, and SB looks AMAZING in your wedding dress.
I forgot to link back to you in my TWT post, so I'll head back and do that now. :)

What an amazing picture of you two, and what a lucky lucky girl GUG was that you stepped in to her life.

I look at photos of myself in college when I felt so much bigger than everyone else and i look too thin! my head looks too big for my body. But I thought I was fat because I weighed 165 pounds while my friends were in the 130s. I have a large frame, and i didn't account for that. Now, if i could see the 100-anythings I'd be extatic.

Love the expressions on your faces as you and GuG connect.
And isn't it amazing to get retroactive perspective on what you *really* looked like as opposed to how you felt? I wish we were all a little kinder to ourselves.

I know the history of GUG *Jumping up raising my hands like a crazy person* :) But I've never seen that photo before of the two of you; you can see the love way back when. And I know for sure, that $45 was quite a bit back in the day.
I adore the photo of SB in your dress! IT is a classic style and she is gorgeous.
Enjoy your girls this week!
