Saturday (in a game I am bummed to have missed, but I was busy doing something really important and also sort of top-secret, so such is life) the Scripps Ranch High School Water Polo Team won the CIF Division II Championship. For the second time in four years. Ahem.
I would have to say the thing I miss most about parenting teenagers is water polo. The game, the camaraderie among the kids and parents and the fact that for us it was very much a family thing. Oh, and the winning. I do miss the winning. Also? Out-of-town tournaments with our peeps.
I remember blogging about what a special group we had--I've been part of many teams over the years, so I know special when I see it. I'm pleased that all of us moms felt the same; we've kept our group together--Happy Hours, Ballast Point nights with husbands, Starbucks coffee dates and a newly-formed book group, as well as Facebook have us solidly in touch.
I am really looking forward to flying back East next fall to see Danger Boy play one more time before he hangs up his Speedo--though, he could join a Master's League . . . and who knows, maybe one day there will be another #2 in the family.
Be sure to visit the other Time Warp posters this week--Heidi and Susan.
What a lucky thing you had that to enjoy with your family and the others. Perhaps someday an alumni game will bring the gang together again?

We do an alumni game the Saturday after Thanksgiving each year--unfortunately, for now, Thanksgiving is a hard time of year for the boys to get home. We often stop in just to say hi and see everyone.

It's wonderful that you've kept in touch with the other moms.

I miss the company and excitement of the team days, too. I am still sorry we never got to see our daughter row in college. Just too expensive to go and they never came out this way to a more affordable venue!

Wait, what?! DB's a junior in college this year? When you come in the fall, how long will you stay, because I would love to see you again.

I love that you still keep in touch with the other parents. Playing such an intense sport and traveling together really does bond you! Hanging up his speedo? Seems SO soon!

It's hard to let go of those parental traditions...I'm just getting it.

I just love knowing how lasting your connection is with this sport. My suspicion is that I'll feel the same way about the end of cross-country meets, once Allegra graduates. And if she runs in college, I'll be driving a lot to attend meets in the fall!

I miss volunteering opportunities through the PTA board which happened on school days. I might be manning a table selling spirit shirts and spot one or two of my boys headed to class. Precious days for sure!
